PROJECT 189

At the beginning of 2016, I became a representative for Project 189, an NGO in Kuwait aiming to protect, promote and improve the rights of domestic workers in the Middle East. My objective in Project 189 has been to collaborate with communities and educators through socially engaged campaigns that can provide a platform for reflection and community building, ensuring that the government's efforts are followed through. Awareness and involvement are the key elements in creating a community culture based on respect for humanity in general, and in Kuwait's case to domestic workers in particular.

TECHNOVATION CHALLENGE

An international app development competition based in the US for young women interested in creating, building, and selling an app that addresses a social or environmental problem in their community in alignment with UN Sustainable Development goals. I mentored a team last year at ASK who built an app for reporting human trafficking in Kuwait, and will mentor up to two teams again this year. Here are some of our highlights and the final business plan proposal from last year's competition.

Jane goodall's roots & shoots AND WORKER'S APPRECIATION

Student involvement through ASK's Sustainability Program has been an important component to raising awareness of the abuses faced by domestic workers in the gulf. These student leaders have learned compassion and how to create projects with a meaningful change in their communities.
